If it is good for Zimbabwe, then it must surely be good for the Seychelles. What a farce at the cost of Tax Payers money.

Those who may find comfort in knowing our presidential election process due in just a few days will include international observers should be aware that the SADC Electoral Observation Mission is the same body that has gone on record saying Robert Mugabe’s presidential mandate bestowed by voters in Zimbabwe was achieved through credible elections allowing the result to stand, no matter that fairness was observably lacking.

“On the question of fairness, it’s very difficult to say everything was fair,” SADC election observer Bernard Membe said in the capital Harare as he summarised his report.
SADC mission members are in Seychelles again now after observing the 2011 vote, still refusing to disclose what was found more than four years ago on the grounds that, “they do not want to affect the current election by divulging any of the findings from the previous election watch ... “, and promising to illuminate Seychellois AFTER this election concludes.

It makes sense only in the context of African politics that disclosure of vote rigging would remain secreted away from the populace until another run is over, for why else would information on a four-year-old process remain under wraps at this stage of the game?

The SADC Electoral Observation Mission would have lost credibility in the eyes of the Seychelles people. Glad they having a wonderful holiday at the cost of the Seychelles Tax payers. They should not forget to include this in theirs reports.

Seychelles has no desire to be another Zimbabwe, yet it seems what works for Mugabe is good enough for the Seychellois.

If the political parties should have a protest regarding this election it should be that some Electoral Observer Mission (SADC) are not at all observing and not presenting timely report. Smells of a rat.

  3. How can we describe him if what the newspaper Independent printed today on Dr Ramados is true, then there is only one thing to do with such a treacherous individual after the election, erase him from the Seychelles landscape. He is a dangerous opportunist for the island and he is just not sure who to back in this election to safeguard his ill-gotten fortune. He has crossed both PL and the opposition and now at the very last minute he finds himself between a rock and a hard place. A real malbar 'poun-diki' as the elder Seychellois would describe him.

  4. Ralph Volcere is an arse-hole. When he was being harassed by the gagging judge many Seychellois supported him and openly expressed their encouragement. This time he will be alone and no one will care. Ralph Volcere, Dr. Ramados and James Mancham are all the same, they have sold their soul for four pieces of silver, their pockets might be fuller but their public credibility is zero.

  5. The problem is not just this Malbar Pundiki ! We have a bigger problem with Ralph Volcere:
Why do we not vent our frustration with Ralph Volcere. Have you seen his latest Independent dated 4th December. This guy is not for real. He has sold his soul to Satan. I used to reluctantly vote for SPPF/Parti Lepep, but after reading Ralph paper last night, I have made my mind up that no serious voter should vote in this Satan Party, Parti Lepep. How can Ralph even say Gerard Houareau is his Hero !. Ralph you have a very serious problem. I wonder how do you even sleep at night. Do you have a conscience ? You might as well rename your paper to 'Independent People'. Ralph no one will ever fully agree with Parti Le Pep, SNP, Alliance, PDP etc... and no one will fully agree with you. But your skewed articles in the independent fully supports Parti Le pep is uncalled for especially from someone like you. We will never know how much you have been paid, hopefully this payout will carry on giving you sleepless nightmares. Ex SPPF. Vote Bien - DO NOT VOTE PARTI LE PEP in memory of Gerard Houareau. Rest In Peace together with all those murdered by the Government In Charge over the past 38 years."

  9. Michel ask for recount hoping this will give him a 50 plus percent not to go in a second round..........There is nothing to recount.........All other parties accept the result thus majority position must be uphold.........
Michel is surely schocked ,he who said that __-the has no opposition and would win at one go........
There is no Hi pi pi .as in previous elction for Pl.....the fraud machine seems seized by the unprecendent present of Pillay and new parties ------

Where do we go(or not go)from here?
Well,RAm is the opposition leader with the most votes ...hence he automatically and logically must be the Oppositons common candidates ...and all other parties must rally behind ...
I heard Pierre ,before election saying he is the only democrate...it would be interesting to see if Pierre act democractically by supporting RAM ,and not sell out his soul for a few pieces of sliver to Pl .in return for bribes.......

RAM should name Pially as Vice President,,,,(he needs someone with experience along his side)while Afif ,also lots of experience as Economy minister ..a position he held in the past..and have proven to be one of the best fiancne minister we had in the past.

While MRs Amsbury should be named Interior Minister(and maybe attach the justice ministery to the interior ministry too)so that Mrs Amsbury could bring the real reforms needed in the justice system.

  12. No matter what the ruling party will do the numbers do not add up to give them that 50% plus one to govern for other 5 years. Now the opposition parties have to show unity in the second round of voting. The objective is to vote PL out once and for all.
However, voters who benefitted from bribe money last time - here is your chance to ask Michel for a double payment for the second vote!. They say that Money talks - this is when Michel will have to pay whatever the price to get votes! Take all the money that you can, before Ralph Volcere takes it and before LP goes broke. In the meantime congratulation to all the Opposition Parties for their tremendous effort in their campaigns, keeps singing "Aurevoir Michel ou aller, ici le coeur Lise pe casser"

  18. Wow! what a date to start the new chapter of Seychelles Liberation!
Albert Rene, James Michel and gang started their coup d'Etat on 5th. June 1977 and called it Revolution. In fact there was no revolution on that date but only abolition of Democracy by a bloody coup. They started lying right off-the-bat by calling it Revolution and 'bloodless' coup when in fact several people were murdered in cold blood that day - remember Constable Jeannie?, remember Davidson Chang Him? and others. That day was the beginning of a long horror filled area of murders, disappearances, imprisonments and exiles. 38 years of dictatorship molded under North Korean doctrine and dynasty, enforced 'sur-le-lieu' by North Korean soldiers, this is where the system of 'pass-batton' originated.
It is no coincidence that the Liberation Day starts also on a 5th., it is God's way to remind Seychellois of the past atrocities, it is the right date for a wake-up call.
Our gratitude and thanks to all opposition candidates for their Hercules efforts in this election campaign - Mr. Ramkalawan for his stamina regardless of number of defeats, Mr Pillay for bravery in taking PL head on and their corruptions, Mrs Amesbury for walking the talk 'sa kine chose son chose y'a chose li meme', Mr Pierre for perseverance in spite of the odds, and Mr Boulle for everlasting and providing perhaps that extra push to top the magic mark of 50% plus one!
Well done and good luck for a knock out in the second round with a right upper-cut.

Throughout world history we have seen how leaders became punch-drunk with power and refuse to give up even at the very end when they know that the odds are against them. Take for example Marcos in the Philippines and more recently Gadhafi in Libya, they both came to a sad and tragically end when they could have retired in style and appreciation. My advice to Michel is to step down now and avoid humiliation of rejection. If Michel has any common sense he should do just that and save the little legacy he has acquired in the past 38 years! Go man go! take Lise and the entourage on a long holiday and live happy ever after.

It was easy to notice that there were two groups of people in trucks and cars waving their political banners of various colours, and it was very difficult to know who were the winners and who were the losers. But it was very striking that the group in red shirts waving red flags were much fatter, darker and uglier. Someone told me that those were 'Partie Lepep' they are purposely forced-fed on free drinks and food for canvassing and they have been doing this for 38 years. Another 5 years will surely be bad for their health..

It reminds me of the documentary films 'Mondo Cane' in Seychelles the reality is that those red shirts are bred for political purposes. Not only they are like those African women in one of the Mondo Cane films where they are kept in cages, forced fed and the fatter they get they are prized higher and supposedly better looking. Here they are given priority housing, social assistance, free drinks and food, music and dances etc., etc.

In the newspaper Nation, J R Mancham published another of his self-glorifying 'Letter to the Editor' AS usual he stressed the National Reconciliation and to worry about the crater before moving the rock away. Well, as long as the rock is left standing, there would never be National Reconciliation and there can never be National Reconciliation if there is no TRUTH COMMISSION first. Mancham and Michel want to skip it or brush the Truth Commission under the carpet, just like they are doing with the DNA analysis of the skull. Life as it is now is great only for Mancham, Rene and Michel, but they are the ones responsible for the mess Seychelles is in today. People want change, want to do it their way in clearing the skeletons from the closet and removing the skulls from the beaches. Only those who are comfortable who do not want change, 38 years for them is nothing and still want more.

This is why James Michel is sending S.O.S calls to every one. For the business men of Seychelles to buy ID cards from their workers to prevent them from voting is a lowdown election fraud and Human Right abuses that the United Nation should know about. Also the international media like CNN, BBC and others should report on to let the world know to what extant a dictator will go to stay in power, and that Seychelles is not free. In this modern day and age, this kind of human right abuse should not be tolerated.
Look at the photograph of PL mini rally published in the newspaper Nation, everybody in the government of LP has been ordered to be there, this is scratching from the bottom of the barrel to show solidarity. It is to be noted that Minister Alain St. Ange is the only one not wearing a red shirt, whilst Attorney General Govinden right behind him is in his full red regalia. Indeed it is desperate time for those guys, having to behave like in Zimbabwe Mugabe - obey orders from Dictator boss, yet knowing that the fall of their regime is coming in just 7 days.

  40. Interesting to note what is happening in Burundi, supposedly a backward country in comparison to Seychelles. Unrest has blighted Burundi since an attempted coup in May and protests over the president's continued rule. The attempt to overthrow President Pierre Nkurunziza followed his decision to seek a third term in office, which he won in a disputed election in July. In Seychelles, James Michel also wants a third term in office which he could not win the first round of election, so it is alleged that his party is buying IDs to prevent the opposition voters from going to the poll in the second round. At least the people in Burundi is not as stupid like those red shirt in Seychelles. The people in Burundi show their intelligence by expressing their discontentment for a third term Presidency. Therefore, Seychelles is still backward to Burundi in political maturity, freedom of expression and human rights.

St. Ange has been very fortunate that tourism flourished in Seychelles for the last few years, whilst he was having a great time in his little harem empire with his secretaries and frolicking around the globe on the tax-payers expense. 51. Supposedly the status quo of the present government of Seychelles should be a democratic government. Where at the executive level, there is a President with a cabinet of ministers. And at the legislative branch, a National Assembly. But if one looks closely at this set-up, in reality it is not what one sees.
First, President Michel dictates orders to his Ministers instead of consulting with his Ministers before giving orders; therefore the procedure for executive orders are dictatorial and not democratic. All the Ministers are appointed by him and none dare question his opinion or decision. They ardently follow the whims of this President knowing full well that he can hire or fire as he pleases and they are all trying to please him in order to hold on to their dear appointments.
Secondly, the Legislative branch is even worse. The National Assembly is made up entirely of members from PL who have no qualification nor experience as lawmakers, they spend most of their time in legislature just rubberstamping, even bad laws drafted by incompetent officers from A. G.'s chamber where the Attorney General himself is professionally substandard.
People of Seychelles will have nothing to lose under a change of Government. They will be better off under a true democratic system where the President will not dictate and will not last for decades in office. But if they stay under the present Government, the cycle of dictatorship and pass-baton will continue. The longer Seychelles stays under PL, the more it is becoming like Zimbabwe, with Michel behaving more like Mugabe in wanting to be President for life, even his eyes start to look 92.

  52. Etihad is amking statememnts hoping this will make us vote Pl.....The fact is ,,Airsey Etihad codeshare as result and statistics showed have brought little to Airsey.........And since Airsey main revenues comes from direct lfights TO EUROPE ......the codeshare importance and effct have even became less important.........
A codeshare with Air France for instance ,would be more benficila for Airsey than with Eithad---Why....Sougld Airsey codeshared with Air france ..then Air Seychelles could benfit for Internal Air flgihts in Ueorpe to connect with Airsey......Airsey becuaase od codeshare with a UEropean Nation ...especially in France could benfit from lower Landing ,Parking fee ....because Air france covers that..........---Direct flights have boost tourism ...with was not the case when Airsey entered in Codeshare with Eithad---------Airsey flies to some destinations in Aisa ..but without hub in DHUbai ,hence no benefit for Airsey though in codeshare with Etihad....

  54. They bragged out loud that only LP supporters could fill up Gordon Square "La Pleine y plein". You could see and hear them dancing and swaging their fat asses in their red regalia in praise of James Michel. The silent majority had heard the dictator addressing the crowd on numerous occasions in his despotic and bombastic voice, warning all opposition parties not to challenge PL - "pas touché nous, PL y bleinde". Michel must have been shocked to see the strength of the opposition during the last rally where a huge crowd swamped the Gordon Square like a tsunami. It was that sleeping giant that had finally waken up to show support for Lynion Sanzman.
Not to lose face, Michel organized his mini rally at the International Conference Centre by ordering all his Ministers and party Stewards to attend for a show of solidarity. Alain St Ange spoke and referred to PL as a the huge 'masin' (engine) that could crush SNP a small party of only 35%. St Ange was the only one not wearing a red shirt for the occasion, he must have felt awkward and must have realized that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Or possibly it could have been a sign of nostalgia, he could not bring himself to don the red regalia and identifying himself fully with the wrong crowd. As a previous blogger said "Alain, never burn your bridges".
Peter Sinon has never learned, still incompetent as ever, in his endeavor to please the red audience he uttered the wrong quotation "until our last drop of blood!" Really Peter, you are not Guy Sinon and we are not living June 1977. You too must be dreaming of a wrong place time and wrong time. Perhaps the teaching of Mao Tse-Tung is playing on your mind - 'Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun'. Remember it is too late for you to dream of another Coup d'Etat.

  55. Michel afraid of loosing his power ,is preaching about Instability and unrest.....what is ture ,is that dictatorship with its inequality, injustice, patronage.curruption ,,,are traits for instability and unrests.
Michel dictatorship ,thuggish ,robbery ,corruption ,inequality, injustice, harraseemnt ,,intimidations ,all practices endemic to a dicators will be the cauase fo any Instabiltiy and unrest should it happens ,,not People asking for their rights, freedmos and liberties as well as their right to chose their leaders freely ans they should .
Dictaotr always sue threat ,fear to secure itself ....but the reality is that dicatroship is an Unjusted ,unequal .divisive system that has all it takes to create not STABILITY bit instability nad unrest.....
if a nation thinks its liberties are being rpaed ba a handful of gangsters ,,they have the rights to take to the streets /as it is a constitutional rights and civil rights ) ofr them to do so......
Use of guns ,harraseemnt intimidation, arrest ,torture ,are traits that pave the path for instability ,,the same tactic Pl is using to keep themselves from power.

Injsutice, inequality ,corruption ,patronage ,poverty these are the things that potential create instability nad unrest ... Not democracy where people are fre to decide their destiny ......--All genuine stable couneis in the world ,with the exception of china which is special in itself) show that democracies are stable ........while dicatros always ede by falling apart for itsis not genuine ..we swa this in Lybai,Tunisia,Egypt,Yemen ,Iraq.Syria, etc,, ,but not in Europe,North American countires in which Democracy reign.....

  57. James Michel has the audacity to say in his New Year's Message - 'I Love Seychelles’ is a theme that evokes what Seychellois believe in. In the 38 years that PL has been in power, they have destroyed the very values that he spoke about, - "our hopes, our unity as a people, our beautiful country, the harmony of our people". PL has never evoked the feelings of patriotism instead it has always been 'eck nous - pas eck nous', and overseas Seychellois have always been disfranchised as outcasts. As for progress, only foreigners and elite groups are progressing with gifted land of Rs. 1.00/-. Or unless one votes for PL, his or her name would be added on the list of recipients of housing scheme - Perseverance is a classic example.
And as for 'our beautiful country' is all but a nostalgia of the past. Seychelles is not, repeat not, a beautiful country any more. What the Seychellois remember is the old Seychelles where culture , tradition, land, sea and natural environment compliment each other to make the country 'beautiful'. Seychelles to day is just a mirage, everything one sees is artificial, most of the projects are begging bowl concepts not beneficial to Seychellois - Eden Island is another classic example. The streets are as congested as New Delhi India and to drive a car on the island is a nightmare. The place is still thrilling for tourists who pay for their short stays in 5-star hotels through overseas accounts, after a quick dip in the sea they leave all their dirt and mess for the locals to cope with. Likewise, the tuna is tinned by cheap labour and shipped to EU for European to eat and payments are made in overseas private accounts. This is depilation of Seychelles natural resources whilst James Michel calls it 'blue economy'. ...cont.

  58. The Seychelles people are patiently waiting to see what James Michel will announce in the coming 100 days. One thing he must realize, one cannot talk about National Reconciliation before appointing a 'Truth Commission'. And that Commission must be composed of competent Seychellois who are conversant with Seychelles, people, culture and most importantly its history. A book starts with a Preface and ends with an Epilogue not the other way around. James Michel has a lot to do to redeem himself in 100 days or the 193 votes mandate will be not be quiet sufficient to last him a full 5 years.
